3 Tips to Improve Your Holidays: Reduce Stress and Improve Your Mental Health

The holidays and the end of the year can be a stressful time - BUT it doesn’t have to be that way!

If you want to enjoy your holidays and enjoy the end of the year, keep reading to learn 3 easy ways you can improve your experience and reduce your stress!

I started making these changes 8 years ago (with #3) and it’s been incredible how much more enjoyable and fun the end of the year has been!

l’m able to do the things I want to do and not feel exhausted by the time New Years rolls around… part of that was definitely learning to say “no” to some things.

Tip #2 has also helped me in my relationship so much, to make sure we are on the same page and supportive of each other’s needs.

Making the change mentioned in #3 has also left me feeling so much more fulfilled!

3 Tips to Improve Your Holidays:

  1. Know Yourself.

    • Know what situations or experiences might trigger or stress you out, then create a plan to mitigate them.

    • Think about past years, what has not been a great experience for you?

    • Are you traveling too much?

    • Are you over-committing yourself?

    • Are there certain situations in which you feel more stressed? How can you reduce that stress?

    • Know yourself and adjust accordingly!

  2. Communicate your expectations.

    • This going to save you so much friction and miscommunication.

    • Communicate with everyone to make sure that everyone is on the same page, this is especially important with significant others and family.

    • Let those close to you know what stresses you out and ask for their help in coming up with a solution if you aren’t sure what to do.

  3. Give up gift giving.

    • Or stated differently, give up PHYSICAL gift giving.

    • Focus on experiences and spending time with people instead of running around or spending a ton of time on the internet trying to find the perfect gift.

    • What if you just focus your time and energy on spending time with the people that you care about?
